Renewal of Wedding Vows

By

The following is a ceremony I wrote for a couple who had been married 50 years and wanted tor reaffirm their vows. You can modify it to fit any occasion or number of years in which a couple may sense the need to renew their vows.

Renewal of Vows at 50th Anniversary

“When the two of you stood at the altar 50 years ago you entered into a covenant that was to never be broken and for 50 years God has been faithful and good to you. The reason for this occasion is to celebrate God’s goodness and to publicly reaffirm the commitment that the two of you made 50 years ago. In no way does it replace what was done then it simply reaffirms the seriousness of what was done then. We are looking back with gratitude of what God has done and looking forward in faith at what God is going to do.”

(To move into the exchange of affirmations you might say—)

“As a testimony of the grace of God that has been upon your marriage for these past 50 years and as an expression of your desire to publicly express your continued commitment to each other, would you now take each other by the right hand and repeat these declarations of love to one another:”

I, _Husband_, am grateful to God for you __Wife_____.

As your husband of 50 years, I pledge to you my deepest love for the rest of my days upon earth.
I promise to love you,
Cherish you,
Honor you,
In sickness as in health.
In poverty as in wealth.
I commit to being a faithful Christian husband to you as long as we both shall live.

If they want to exchange rings again you can do this at this time. Here is a suggestion. Have the Husband hold the ring on her ring finger and repeat after you:

With this ring I have thee wed.
I still pledge to thee my loyal love.
I still endow to thee my earthly goods.
In the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit

Have her to do the same as she holds the ring on his ring finger.

PRAYER
This would be a good time to pray a prayer of blessing over them.

Afterwards you can share with all those present:

Ladies and Gentlemen please join with me in celebrating 50 years of marriage with Mr. and Mrs. _____________________________.

_______________you may now kiss your bride.

LET THE CELEBRATION BEGIN!
