Almost all faiths can prosper by sharing their message with others. Recording sermons and posting them on the internet is easy to do and does not require a lot of money.

Steps

  1. Find someone in the group that has experience with posting information to the internet or willing to learn. The process is not difficult but has several steps. This would be an ideal project for the youth group to take on or anyone in the web design business.
  2. Record the sermon. Find a way to patch a computer into the sound system. Look for right and left channel out connectors or a headphone monitor plug. You will need recording and editing software. There are several free programs available for download such as Audacity. Programs for purchase such as Propaganda will make the process of recording and uploading the file easier.
  3. Edit the recording. Take out what ever is not necessary such as silent moments.
  4. Export the edited recording in the MP3 format.
  5. Upload the MP3 file to a web host like SermonAudio or MP3-Sermons.
  6. Create a link from your website to the sermon.
  7. Announce to all the existence of your recording. Internet groups such as Google Groups will keep your list of email addresses for you. One posting of the announcement will sent to all.
  8. Consider creating a Podcast. By clicking on subscription button sermons will be automatically downloaded to the computers, Ipods, and other MP3 players as they are posted.

Tips

  • You will need a web host that offers a lot of space. This does not need to cost a lot of money. Ipowerweb offers 200 GB for $7.95 per month and offers free templates for easy website design. Christian Archives is a new website that provide 1.5 GB of FREE server space and an easy way to provide your members with access to your files.
  • Add the web address of your sermons to all church publications.
  • Announce at church services that the sermons are available for download and encourage them to be shared with all.
  • Those who wish to automatically receive the sermon via a podcast will need special software such as Windows Juice or Doppler and for the Mac Juice or Transistr.
  • Promote your sermon downloads by using the RSS feed capability that is built into your internet group. When a visitor clicks on the RSS feed button for ever more your sermon feed will appear in their favorites. RSS stands for "really simple syndication". Add the RSS link for your internet group to your organization’s homepage.

Warnings

  • If your sermons become very popular you can get hit with extra bandwith use charges from your webhost. This is not bad news. It means that your message is being received by thousands.

Things You’ll Need

  • Computer with recording software
  • Website to upload MP3 files to.
  • Internet Group to announce that new recordings are available for download
