HELP! My Family’s Not Saved!
by Eddie Lawrence

Following is a bible study idea or sermon to be developed. It contains suggestions on what a person can do regarding unsaved family members or unsaved people in general for that matter.
1.  LIVE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IN FRONT OF THEM
-walk the walk more than you talk the talk
-1 Peter 3:1 ff

2. DON’T WEAR THEM OUT WITH WORDS
-1 Peter 3:1 ff
– Leave the preaching to preachers
-Remember they don’t care how much you know till they know how much you care.

3. REALIZE THAT YOU CANNOT SAVE THEM
-It’s the Lord who saves.
-I often counsel people in such situations to not get between a person and God. Yes, share God’s love but do not try to convert someone by being pushy and overly persuasive.
-A man persuaded against his will if of the same opinion still.

4. SEEK SINCERITY AND AVOID HYPOCRISY
-Be honest and sincere about everything
-Be honest about your own faults and ask forgiveness when you falter
-Let them know you are human too and in need of God’s grace
-Don’t parade your spirituality in religious pride. Didn’t work in Jesus day and still doesn’t work.

5. SOW SEEDS WITHOUT NAGGING
-An unrelenting condemning stream of bible verses does not draw people to Christ.
-Speaking the truth in love and sowing seeds of kindness and mercy will open hearts.

6. PRAY FOR THEM
-This is one of the biggest bombs you can drop on the devil’s plans for someone’s life.
-Pray for them to know the goodness and kindness of God.
-Pray for their eyes to be opened.
-Pray for discerning of what God would have you to do to show His love.
-Pray for them to encounter God.

7. LET THE HOLY SPIRIT SET IT ALL UP
-Being led of the Holy Spirit means He goes first.
-You can be a hindrance to what God is doing if you are not sensitive to the Holy Spirit in what you do.

8. AVOID RELIGIOUS CLICHES AND CHRISTIANESE
-Sometimes lost people think we speak a foreign language and have not a clue what we are saying.
-Communicate to people in understanding ways.
-Religious jargon is more often not a turn off.

9. LOVE THEM
-This is probably the number one ingredient that leads to someone’s conversion.
-Remember love never fails.
-Loving lost people is what Jesus is so very good at.
-Always remember the love that won your own heart.

10. BE READY TO GIVE AN ANSWER BUT WAIT TILL THE QUESTION COMES
-Peter wrote to us to be prepared to answer people when they ask about the hope within you.
-Think about how you would briefly share your own salvation testimony.
-Think about the best words to use and how to describe how God opened your heart.

11. TIMIING IS SO IMPORTANT
-This goes along with being led by the Holy Spirit, but knowing when God is dealing with someone is important.
-Pay attention to the questions people ask and the problems they are facing.
-God is near to the broken hearted and this is often a time when people are more open.

12. EMPHASIZE JESUS NOT THE CHURCH
-Jesus saves, the church does not.
-Once a person is saved, then you can encourage them to connect with other believers.
-We might block someone from coming to Jesus because we have made our goal getting them to church.
-Yes, invite them to Church but make sure they understand that Jesus is the focus of your life.

13. REMEMBER THE LORD LOVES THEM MORE THAN YOU DO
-This is a way to keep your heart from becoming discouraged or to avoid giving up on someone.
-You can always count on the fact that God loves your loved ones and is working to bring them to Himself.
-You can the opportunity of partnering with Him in loving them to Christ.

Can you think of other items to add to this list? Use it to help yourself and others see their loved ones saved.
