FOUR TRUTHS ABOUT EASTER
by Eddie Lawrence

TEXT: Matthew 28: Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door,[a] and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.

But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.

Please consider these four truths that we find in the first part of verse six:

1. Easter is About An Incredible Person
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said……

Jesus – fully man, fully God. Sinless, blameless, powerful, loving, forgiving, gracious

2. Easter is About An Empty Tomb
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said……

-The tomb that holds the dead could not hold him in his death.
-His death was terrible but not final.
-His death leads to our life. Now….
-Death conquered.
-The past behind us for good.
-Sin’s penalty atoned.
-From darkness to light
-From death to life

3. Easter is About A Risen Lord

He is not here; for He is risen, as He said……

-He lived.
-He died.
-He lives!
-Our Savior lives today. Will you come to him?
-He has been raised and seated at Father’s right hand and will return.
-Every person will stand before him. Are you ready?

4. Easter is About A Promise Kept
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said……

-The resurrection is a perpetual reminder of God’s faithfulness to us.
-Every Spring season is a picture in the natural of the truth of the resurrection.
-All that God has spoken is sure and true. He is faithful. Will you trust Him?
