Things to Remember When Hard Times Come

by Eddie Lawrence

Introduction: The group of men that I have been meeting with the past five years early each Tuesday morning helped me come up with the following list of things we all need to remember when we are going through hard times. The list is not complete, you could add many more things of importance, but it does contain a lot of really good encouragements. I hope it will prove helpful to you as you develop it and add appropriate scriptures and illustrations.

1. Remember to help others in their hard times.

FINDING VICTORY IN YOUR VALLEY

FINDING VICTORY IN YOUR VALLEY
by Eddie Lawrence

INTRODUCTION: I read a story about a man who saw an eagle. He said this….Once when I was in Switzerland I saw an eagle, a splendid bird, but it was chained to a rock. It had some twenty or thirty feet of chain attached to its legs, and to an iron bolt in the rock. There was the king of birds, meant to soar into Heaven, chained to earth. That is the life of multitudes of believers. Are you allowing business, are you allowing the cares of the world, are you allowing the flesh to chain you down, so that you cannot rise?

Is this a picture of your life right now? Are you being overcome by life's circumstances? Are you finding it hard to rise up and be who you know God has called you to be? The Scripture speaks to us on our place as Spirit born believers. Listen to what John wrote in 1 John 5…

TEXT: 1 John 5:For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

5 TRUTHS ABOUT TEMPTATION
by Eddie Lawrence, D.Min.

Text: 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

1. Temptation is a Common Experience for Man

Tested or Tempted

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Sometimes we struggle with the question, "Is it God or the Devil?" behind all this. I believe God tests and Satan tempts. The following is some great Greek word study info I found. It is written by Dr. Bob Utley. A good solid sermon could be built out of the information below. God tests us to prove us and Satan tempts us to pervert us.

SPECIAL TOPIC: GREEK TERMS FOR TESTING AND THEIR CONNOTATIONS
There are two Greek terms which have the idea of testing someone for a purpose:

1. DokimazÇ, Dokimion, Dokimasia
This term is a metalurgist term for testing the genuineness of something i.e. metaphorically someone) by fire. The fire reveals
the true metal and burns off (i.e. purifies) the dross. This physical process became a powerful idiom for God and/or Satan
and/or humans testing others. This term is only used in a positive sense of testing with a view towards acceptance.
It is used in the NT of testing:

a. oxen – Luke 14:19
b. ourselves – I Cor. 11:28
c. our faith – James. 1:3
d. even God – Heb. 3:9
The outcomes of these tests were assumed to be positive (cf. Rom. 1:28; 14:22; 16:10; II Cor. 10:18; 13:3; Phil. 2:27; I Pet.
1:7). Therefore the term conveys the idea of someone examined and proved to be:
a. worthwhile
b. good
c. genuine
d. valuable
e. honored

Satan Is A Taker! — sermon outline

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Following is one of my sermon outlines that deals with some basic but important information Jesus taught about the enemy of our souls.

TEXT: John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
