How to Receive

How to Receive

God wants to give you so much. Jesus received on the cross all our sins so we could receive all He wants to give us.

Luke 23:41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong

Galatians 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

1.  Requirements for receiving

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned

Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land

2.  Readiness for receiving

understand God has done everything so that you can receive and all He wants to give you comes through Jesus by the Holy Spirit

1 Corinthians 4:7 And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

John 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Salvation  (receive as a little child) (receive adoption as sons)
Holy Spirit Baptism (receive the Holy Spirit, don’t quench or grieve Him)
Healing (receive your sight)
Answers to prayer (when you pray, believe, and you will receive)
Revelation (must be open to hearing)
Word (receive the implanted word)

Must receive ministry of others. He is the vine; we are the branches.  Much of what God wants to give us comes through the Holy Spirit working through people! A branch receives life and nourishment from the vine!

Who are the People you are open to receive from?

John 3:27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven

Matt. 10:40 “He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41“He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward

Luke 10:8  “Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9“And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10“But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ 12“But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.
13“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14“But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15“And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. 16“He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

3.  Resistance to receiving.

Pride, fear, offenses, rejection, self-centeredness, carnality, envy, strife, divisions, behavior, wrong focus, foundation,

1 Corinthians 3:2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?

Must be willing
Matthew 11:14 And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. 15“He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

Must receive with  openness

Mark 10:15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

Must ask

John 16:24“Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full

Must ask for the right reason

James 4:3You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Must ask believing
Matthew 21:22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

James 1:7 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

John 1:11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.

Jesus’ attitude toward those who wouldn’t receive Matt. 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing

4.  Results of receiving

Act 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

1 John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
