A PRAYER, HIS POWER, A MIRACLE HOUR – SERMON AND NOTES

YOUR PRAYER, HIS POWER, A MIRACLE HOUR

TEXT: ACTS 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; 3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. 4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” 5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him……
4:4 However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

1.  THEY DID NOT ALLOW THEIR WORSHIP TO REPLACE THEIR WITNESS.

“AND FIXING HIS EYES ON HIM, WITH JOHN, PETER SAID, LOOK  ON US”

We are to be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit who is to lead us. Peter and John where on the way to worship but realized the Holy Spirit was calling them to witness.

Would you be willing to be late for church in order to stop and share God's love for someone?

We must not be like the religious men in the story of the good Samaritan who could not help someone in need because they were busy with their religious stuff.

Our love for being at "church" must not become more important than our being the church. You are the church. Christ is in you. He is still seeking to save that which is lost, so there should be times when you sense he is "finding" a lost person and using you to do it.

We also must be aware that our helping others is worship when we do it in Jesus name. We are worshipping when we are following the Holy Spirit.

2. WHAT THEY DIDN’T HAVE DID NOT KEEP THEM FROM SHARING WHAT THEY DID HAVE.

"SILVER AND GOLD I DO NOT HAVE, BUT WHAT I DO HAVE I GIVE YOU…"

Our awareness of what we do have is vital. Often we do not realize the awesome power and promises of God we possess. But what good are they if we do not use them.

I heard one believer looking on a great catherdal that had been built said, "The church can no longer say "Silver and gold have I none, but neither can she say, in the name of Jesus rise up and walk."

Please realize that God will often use your willingness to pray for someone in faith to advance the kingdom. Do not underestimate what can happen if you will just be willing to pray for somone on the spot in the middle of a busy day. Great things can happen through these acts of faith and obedience.

3. IN GOD’S ECONOMY GOD USES WHAT WE CAN DO TO ACCOMPLISH WHAT WE CANNOT DO.

"IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, RISE UP AND WALK."

This is the expression of our faith. We know that Jesus still does what he has always done. He still saves, restores, heals, and delivers people. These are things we cannot do but he can. Our faith moves us to share this with people and allow Jesus to move and work through us. We must offer ourselves in obedience to him to work through His Holy Spirit through us.

4. IN GOD’S ECONOMY 2+1+1=5000

"THE MEN CAME TO BE ABOUT FIVE THOUSAND"

THE TWO- PETER AND JOHN
THE ONE- THE MAN IN NEED
THE ONE- JESUS
THE 5000- THE ONES SAVED BECAUSE OF ALL THESE CONVERGING

This is the early church "church growth" strategy. Follow the moving of the Holy Spirit in faith and announcing the Kingdom in the name of Jesus Christ. The good news is still good. The power to witness is still operative. The power of God is still present. The Kingdom is still advancing. And remember…it is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

CONCLUSION: Think of it this way. Your prayer plus His power can create a miracle hour. As a result of Peter and John's prayer a whole environment was energized with the saving activity of the Holy Spirit.
