A Confession Lesson

By

Written by Eddie Lawrence, D.Min.

Most preachers have preached what the Greek word for "confession" means which is "to say the same thing." The actual word homologeo is a compound word: homo (the same) and logeo (to speak or to say). Therefore the meaning to "to say the same thing." Biblically then it is to say the same thing about our sin that God does ( 1 John 1:9-10 ). Television and the movies give us lots of occasion to see police officers in an interrogation room or lawyers in a courtroom attempting to get criminals to confess to their crimes. Usually the movie climaxes with the startling confession of how it all happened as the guilty confesses. Here is the sermon idea or suggestion. We know all of us sin, therefore, we all need to confess. There are a lot of people who are unsure that they know how to do it the right way. Now we realize the main thing is to just be honest with God. But there is a real need for people to have some basic teaching on how to confess sin. Ways we try to cover sin. What it is? What it isn't? A how to sermon. Who? What? When? Where? How? What happens when we confess? Your people will grow in their assurance of how to deal with their struggles. Those who help others will also be given good info to help them in their own ministries. Title ideas could be: The Power of Confession The Step to Total Cleansing Breaking Free from Your Past How to Confess Your Sin How to Deal with Your Sin When Saying One Thing Can Change Everything Needed: A Good Confessor! And of course, the title of this blog could also be the title of your sermon. Love you preachers! Blessings.
